Knickers wins a game in season opening weekend!
Sven Richard Tønnessen - 13. 05. 2009 14:37This weekend the NTNUI Knickers played four games in Dødens Dal. Two against Olso Alligators, and two against Pretenders 2. Games were fun and challenging and there was some good baseball going on!
Six nice people helped rig the amazing Dødens Dal baseball field on Friday, and the nr. 1 baseball field in Trondheim was rigged with the signature "Green Giant of Middle Norway" in the right field. The stage was set for some tough battles through the weekend.
Saturday morning the Oslo Alligators arrived and we were psyched. With our strength, agility and new found skills we would finally be able to give the Oslo teams a run for their money! We played well with exceptional pitching from Rafael and some good defensive work. Sadly, even though we hit the ball pretty well, the outs came quickly and we ended the game with an 8-3 loss.
The next game against the Pretenders 2 went better. David opened as the pitcher and held P2s runs at a minimum while our batters were ON FIRE and served several doubles, steals and runs. After a couple of innings, David was getting tired and Andrea got ready to make her pitching debut. She pitched three innings giving the most impressive show I have ever seen from a rookie pitcher. With two strike-outs and an average of 15-20 pitches per inning she secured the NTNUI Knickers first win for the season!!!
Sunday was influenced by grey weather and hung over players after the great party on Saturday night. The first game against P2 started great and with an 11-3 lead after 3 innings. It looked like a sure thing to win, but that was before Sven stepped up to the rubber! It was apparent that his hard work as team leader meant that he hasn't practiced much pitching and that his late partying severely affected his pitching skills and after three more innings the game was over and we lost 12-14.
The last game went pretty well and we REALLY gave the Alligators a match! Rafaels pitching was perfect throughout and when Alligators pitcher Stijn got tired towards the end of the game, we nearly caught up and ended with an 11-10 loss.
Great play, everyone!
Looking forward to the next games in Oslo 27th and 28th of June!!
