First 15's win of the season

On a day with typical Trondheim weather the NTNUI boys dressed up in new jerseys and entered the pitch hungry for revenge.

After the narrow loss against OSI in Oslo in may, the boys were ready for revenge. The game was the last one before summer break and the result would decide what fall schedule would look like for both teams.

For the first time in 3 seasons the home team actually had a full kit and people wore numbers matching their position on the pitch. This new situation must have reduced confusion because NTNUI immediately started to run hard at the OSI defence. Within just a few minutes Sølve could do a pick and go over the OSI line. 5-0

Not long after the same guy made a terrible decision and kicked the ball into the hands of the quick OSI wingers. There was not enought speed in the defensive line to stop them and suddenly the score was levelled. 5-5

For the first time of the season Schalk played for us. At fly half he was a threat to the OSI defence whenever he had the ball. In the middle of the first half he got the ball in the OSI 22, did some of his stepping and slipped through the defence to score another try for the home team. This time Conor converted. 12-5

NTNUI continued to dominate the game. The forwards doing a solid job on the day. Due to injuries the scrums were uncontested. This allowed the home team to move Stein Ove back to number 8. His running off the scrums was hard to stop and about half an hour into the game, he picked the ball from the back of a NTNUI scrum and ran it over the line for the bonus point try. Again Conor converted. 19-5

The home team tried to score yet another try to secure the lead at halftime, but it was OSI that struck back with good backline running. An inside pass opened the green defence and suddenly the lead was cut to 7 points. 19-12

In the second half both teams came out chasing an early score. However the ball was mostly in midfield. Steadily the NTNUI boys started to move the ball, and with a fly half doing the best pick and go of the match bringing the ball within inches of the tryline, Sølve could once more pick the ball from the ruck and place it comfortably in the OSI try zone. 24-12

With this try, confidence grew in the home team while the visitors started to realize that the game was slipping away. In a penalty situation in the OSI half the ball was for a change sent towards the wing. Eirik caught the ball and found the hole in the line. Running 25 meters before finishing up by running over the OSI fullback and scoring a fantastic try. Conor's boot split the uprights again and the win seemed secured. 31-12

NTNUI was yet to score a last try, and with 15 minutes left on the clock, Schalk dove in for his second try of the day. The try scorer was then caught by intense cramps and had to walk off, letting Simon enter for the last 15 minutes. 38-12

The last fifteen minutes were scoreless, but both teams continued to play. OSI was in the home team's half most of the time, but didn't manage to break the defensive line. Time ran out, NTNUI had won their first game of the season and qualified for the top 4 play offs after summer. It was all good!

Big thanks to OSI for a good day of rugby and partying. We are looking forward to the next encounter with the Oslo students.
